This small binding was a practice of different leather decoration techniques - an experimentation of painting on leather and highlighting certain areas to paint. This in turn created a void that intentionally shows Rochester hall on fire, with flames licking out of the windows and doors.
The textblock itself was traditional in its style, being sewn onto recessed cords, which were then laced into the boards, covered and sanded to reduce the marking on the cover. The endpapers were made, using printed paper and a western paper that complimented the textblock. The endbands were simple two colour endbands.
The binding was exhibited at East Beach Studios as part of Worthing Artist Open Houses 2019, and has now joined a private collection.
